A Day’s Work: Green screens, animation and voice-overs: Designing modern slot machines

Playing the slots while on the job is frowned upon in most professions, but at Everi, it’s a requirement.

The Las Vegas-based slot machine-maker has a development center in an office in the West Loop Gate neighborhood.

About 50 employees keep their creative juices flowing with a game-filled lounge, although no money’s at stake. The office also has a green-screen room and a sound studio, tools for building machines to keep casinogoers entertained.

“We’re drawing; we’re animating; we’re filming stuff on a green screen; we’re composing music in-house; we’re doing voice-overs,” said Bradley Rose, senior vice president of game development. “And we put it all together and package it up into a slot machine.” Read More
